Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şükrü Özdemir (2015-2020) He was born in Konya. He completed his primary and secondary education in Istanbul, and finished high school at Konya Teachers' School. In 1982, he graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics. He pursued his master's and doctoral studies at Istanbul Technical University. He worked at Uludağ University and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University for a period. In 1995, he joined Marmara University, specifically the Atatürk Faculty of Education, where he took on roles such as the head of the Department of Mathematics and Science Education and the head of the Elementary Mathematics Education Department. From 2015 to 2020, he served as the dean of the Atatürk Faculty of Education. Prof. Özdemir's academic work encompasses number theory, mathematics education and instruction, educational statistics, and the history of mathematics. For his academic research, he spent time in New York in 1998 and in London from 2014 to 2015. Currently, he continues his role as the head of the Department of Mathematics Education at the Atatürk Faculty of Education. |

Prof. Dr. Ramazan ÖZEY (2012-2015) He was born in the village of Akseki in the Bozdoğan district of Aydın in 1955. He completed his undergraduate, master's, and doctoral education at Atatürk University. His academic journey began in 1981 when he joined the Department of Geography at Atatürk University, and in 1991, he moved to the Department of Geography Education at Atatürk Faculty of Education, Marmara University. Throughout his career, he took on significant roles, including serving as the head of the Department of Secondary Education in Social Sciences and the head of the Department of Geography Education. From 2012 to 2015, he held the position of dean at the Atatürk Faculty of Education. Focusing his research on Turkey's human geography and regional geography, Özey received the "Scientist of the Year Award" in the field of "Turkic Studies" as part of the "Yesevi 2001 Year Love and Tolerance Awards." Currently, he continues his academic work within the Department of Geography Education at the Atatürk Faculty of Education. |
Prof. Dr. Cemil ÖZTÜRK (2009-2012) * |
Prof. Dr. Cemil ÖZTÜRK (2009-2012) Prof. Dr. Cemil Öztürk completed his undergraduate, master's, and doctoral education at Marmara University. Between 2008 and 2009, he served as a member of the Marmara University Senate. From 2002 to 2005, he held the position of vice dean at the Atatürk Faculty of Education. Subsequently, from 2009 to 2012, he served as the dean at the Atatürk Faculty of Education. He made significant contributions to the establishment and development of both undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Social Studies Education. His research areas have primarily focused on education history, social studies education, the Turkish education system, and teacher training. Öztürk initiated accreditation efforts in teacher education in Turkey and currently serves as the chairman of the Board of Directors of EPDAD (Education Faculties Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association). |

Prof. Dr. Ayla OKTAY (2005-2009) Ayla Oktay graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Arts, Department of Pedagogy in 1969. She earned her doctoral degree from the same university in 1971. During the 1975-1976 academic year, she participated in a postdoctoral training program in England. She served as a faculty member at Istanbul University and spent some time in England and Germany in 1987. In 1988, Ayla Oktay was appointed as a professor at Marmara University's Atatürk Faculty of Education, where she also served as the Director of the School of Education from 1988 to 1991. Between 1992 and 2005, she held the position of founding director at Marmara University's Institute of Educational Sciences, where she initiated Master's programs in Classroom Teaching and Preschool Education, as well as a Doctoral Program. From 2005 to 2009, she served as the Dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education. She retired from Marmara University on June 17, 2009. Ayla Oktay concentrated her research in the fields of preschool education, girls' education, and comparative education, and she actively participated as a member of the UNESCO Turkish National Committee's Education Commission and the Turkish National Committee for Teacher Training at the Higher Education Institution. She retired from Marmara University in 2009 and passed away in 2022. |

Prof. Dr. Sema Sevinç Ergezen (2002-2005) Sema Sevinç Ergezen was born in Istanbul in 1943. She graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Science, Department of Zoology-Botany in 1966. She pursued her higher education in the United States, earning a master's degree in 1972 and a doctorate in 1976, both in the Department of Zoology at Washington University. Her academic career began in 1976 when she joined the Faculty of Science and Literature at Middle East Technical University. In 1989, she transferred to Marmara University. Between 2002 and 2005, she served as the dean of Marmara University's Atatürk Faculty of Education. She held various leadership roles, including chairing the Department of Secondary Education in Science and Mathematics between 2008 and 2009 and leading the Department of Biology Education from 1997 to 2009. Sema Sevinç Ergezen retired in 2010 and passed away in Istanbul in 2020. |

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Lütfü BERKEM (1999-2002) Mustafa Lütfü Berkem was born in 1947 in Seferihisar-İzmir. Born in 1947 in the Seferihisar district of Izmir, Prof. Dr. Berkem completed his primary and secondary education in Izmir and pursued his undergraduate studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Istanbul University's Faculty of Engineering. Starting his academic career in 1969 at Istanbul University, Berkem worked as a visiting researcher at Southampton University from 1977 to 1980. Between 1982 and 1983, he held a position at Erciyes University and, in 1984, he was appointed to Marmara University. During his career, he served as the vice dean of the Faculty of Science and Literature at Marmara University from 1992 to 1998 and as the dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education from 1999 to 2002. As a member of the Turkish Chemical Society, Berkem represented the society in IUPAC Commissions and also served on the Board of Directors of the Natural Disasters Application Research Center. On February 21, 2014, Berkem retired from the Department of Chemistry at Marmara University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. |

Prof. Dr. Hikmet SAVCI (1993-1999) Born on January 18, 1948, in the Demirci district of Manisa, Prof. Dr. Savcı graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Chemistry in 1970. He began his academic career at Erzurum Atatürk University. Between 1977 and 1978, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Florida University and Iowa University in the United States. In 1983, he started his tenure at Marmara University. During his career, Savcı served as the dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education from 1993 to 1999. He also held key administrative positions, including being the founding dean of the Faculty of Education at Istanbul Aydın University from 2008 to 2011 and Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University from 2011 to 2016. He passed away on September 10, 2016. His work primarily focused on chemistry, chemistry education, and teacher training. |

Prof. Dr. Coşkun Alptekin (1990-1993) Born on September 15, 1942, in Gebze, Prof. Dr. Alptekin graduated from the Department of Medieval History at Istanbul University in 1965. Alptekin won the Ministry of National Education's overseas doctoral examination and was sent to the University of London. In 1967, he began his doctoral studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London under the supervision of Bernard Lewis. During this time, he also studied Arabic for a period in Tunis and Damascus. He obtained his doctorate in 1972. Returning to Turkey the same year, he started his academic career at Erzurum Atatürk University's Faculty of Arts in the Department of History. In 1984, he moved to Marmara University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History. Between 1984 and 1988, he held the position of vice dean in the same faculty. In 1988, he was appointed as a professor at Atatürk Faculty of Education and served as the head of the Department of Social Studies for a period. From 1990 to 1993, he served as the dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education. Later, between 1994 and 1995, he served as the founding dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Muğla University. Alptekin passed away on February 6, 1998, in Istanbul. |

Prof. Dr. İnci Enginün (1987-1990) Prof. Dr. Enginün was born on August 6, 1940, in Istanbul. She completed her primary and high school education at TED Ankara College. She earned her bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees at Istanbul University. Enginün conducted research at Columbia University in 1979-1980. In 1984, she became a professor and started her academic career at Marmara University in the newly established Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. Between 1987 and 1990, she served as the dean of the Atatürk Faculty of Education. From 1991 to 1997, she held the position of director at the Institute of Turkic Studies at Marmara University. Enginün also taught courses at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Erciyes University, Uludağ University, and Boğaziçi University. She was a member of the Scientific Board of the Turkish Language Association and served on the Board of Directors of the UNESCO Turkish National Commission from 1988 to 1993. In 1981, she received the Turkey National Culture Foundation Award for his book "Millî Mücadele ve Gazi Mustafa Kemal Through the Pen of Contemporary Writers." Enginün was also selected as the "Writer of the Year" in the criticism category twice by the Turkish Writers' Union. He retired in 1997. |

Prof. Dr. Turan Ilgaz (1984-1987) Prof. Dr. Ilgaz was born in 1934 in Çorum. He completed his doctoral education in the field of Civil Engineering in 1969. Ilgaz held various positions, including the deanship of the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University, the vice rectorship of Karadeniz Technical University, and membership in the Interuniversity Board. Between 1984 and 1987, he served as the dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education at Marmara University. He made a significant contribution during his deanship by extending the duration of the Primary Education Department's program to a 4-year undergraduate level, setting a precedent in Turkey and leading other education faculties to implement a similar program. Ilgaz also played a role as the project architect for the Çorum State Theater Hall. He passed away on May 5, 2021. |

Prof. Dr. Hakkı Dursun Yıldız (1983-1984) Prof. Dr. Yıldız was born in 1937 in Karaağaç village, Şavşat district of Artvin. He completed his primary and secondary education in Artvin. In 1961, he graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Arts, Department of History, and Çapa Higher Teachers' School. He served as a faculty member in the Department of History at Istanbul University. In 1982, he was appointed as the founding dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Marmara University. He also served as the dean of the Faculty of Education at Atatürk University in 1983-1984. In 1987-1988, Yıldız held the position of Vice Rector at Marmara University, and in 1992, he was appointed as the rector of Marmara University. Unfortunately, his tenure as rector was brief as died of an illness on October 23, 1992. Yıldız made significant academic and administrative contributions to the establishment and development of Marmara University. His research primarily focused on topics related to the acceptance of Islam by the Turks and their contributions to Islam. He was also an active member of the Turkish Historical Society and the Institute for Research on Turkish Culture. |

Prof. Dr. Amil Çelebioğlu (1982-1983) Born on April 20, 1934, in Karaman, Prof. Dr. Çelebioğlu completed his primary and secondary education in Istanbul. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Arts, Department of Turkish Language and Literature in 1961 and started his career as a teacher in Konya. Later, he worked as a faculty member at Istanbul University, Atatürk University, and Hacettepe University. In 1982, Çelebioğlu was appointed as the dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education at Marmara University, where he served as the founding dean for one year. Afterward, he continued his academic work as a faculty member in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Marmara University Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Tragically, Çelebioğlu passed away on July 2, 1990, in a tunnel accident in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which is known as the "Tunnel Disaster." He was known for his research in the field of Old Turkish literature and had made significant contributions to the study of Turkish lullabies and riddles. |
