“Education in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence” – Prof. Punya Mishra, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Arizona State University

Prof. Punya Mishra, a globally recognized scholar in the field of education and technology and one of the co-creators of the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) framework, delivered a talk titled “Education in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence” on May 21, 2025, hosted by the Department of English Language Teaching at Marmara University’s Atatürk Faculty of Education.

During the event, which hosted both academics and students, Prof. Mishra offered an in-depth perspective on how educational systems must be reimagined in the age of artificial intelligence. Emphasizing the transformative impact of generative AI on education, he underlined that teachers should no longer be seen merely as transmitters of information but rather as creative designers of learning processes and experiences.

Prof. Mishra also referred to the technical foundations of large language models and illustrated potential applications of AI in education with concrete examples. He concluded his talk by stressing the importance of approaching AI’s role in education with careful, critical, and ethical consideration.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which Prof. Mishra responded to questions from the audience. At the end of the program, Prof. Dr. Seyfi Kenan, Dean of the Atatürk Faculty of Education at Marmara University, presented Prof. Mishra with a specially designed commemorative plate with the Marmara University emblem and his personal signature and extended his gratitude. During the presentation, Prof. Kenan concluded with a meaningful quote from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, addressed to teachers:

“Teachers! The Republic expects from you generations who are free in thought, free in conscience, and free in knowledge.”
