Goody lecture: the solace of the past in the unspeakable present

On December 23, 2024, we welcomed distinguished anthropologist Prof. Dr. Martha Mundy as a guest speaker in the “Ethics in Science and Research” course taught by Prof. Dr. Seyfi Kenan in the English Language Teaching Department in the fall semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. Drawing on her deep knowledge of historical anthropology and her significant research on the social systems of the Near East, Mundy delivered an engaging lecture titled "Goody lecture: the solace of the past in the unspeakable present".

Following the lecture, students had the opportunity to ask questions. Topics ranged from the challenges she encountered during her research and the ethical dilemmas she faced to her general views and opinions about the regions where she conducted her studies. This event not only deepened our understanding of the importance and effort required for scientific research but also inspired us to approach research with greater sensitivity and awareness
