As part of the Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility program, distinguished faculty members from the Kodály Institute of Hungary—Katalin Körtvesi and Borbola Sziranyi—were hosted by the Music Teacher Education Program at the Faculty of Atatürk Education, Marmara University, between May 6–8, 2025.
During their visit, the guest scholars offered practical courses in the fields of Music Education and Music Teacher Training, conducting six sessions—morning and afternoon—over the course of three days. Under the themes of Musicianship, Methodology, Kokas Pedagogy, and Video-Typed Music Analysis, our students had the opportunity to engage in learning through music-making and to experience various educational approaches.
Katalin Körtvesi has been a faculty member at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music, Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, since 2010. She is an internationally recognized artist-teacher who has led workshops in many countries.
Borbola Sziranyi has also been teaching at the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy since 2010. She regularly delivers postgraduate courses for Hungarian music teachers. Since 2014, she has also taught at a primary school that is part of the Model School Program coordinated by the Liszt Academy. Within this project, she and her colleagues have been working to revitalize Hungarian music pedagogy by experimenting with new music methodology techniques based on the Kodály concept, aiming to adapt it more effectively for 21st-century classrooms. She is well known for her longstanding contributions to Kodály-based music education both in Hungary and around the world.
We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Körtvesi and Ms. Sziranyi for sharing their rich international experiences with our students, and we would be delighted to welcome them back to our faculty in the coming years.
