An online seminar titled "Innovative Technologies in Education" was organized by the Dean's Office of Marmara University Atatürk Education Faculty on February 26, 2024. The seminar was presented by Prof. Dr. Kürşat Çağıltay, a faculty member of Sabancı University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering program. The participants of the event included the Dean and Vice Deans of Atatürk Education Faculty, faculty members, and students. The opening speech of the event was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Doğan, Vice Dean of Atatürk Education Faculty, and the seminar was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Feride Karaca, Head of the Department of Computer and Instructional Technologies Education.
Prof. Dr. Kürşat Çağıltay, who has served as a faculty member at the Middle East Technical University's Department of Computer and Instructional Technologies Education for many years, was the technical group leader of the team that brought the Internet to Turkey in 1993, a project initiated by ODTÜ-TÜBİTAK. According to a 2021 study, he ranks among the top three most productive and influential researchers in the field of education in Turkey. His academic research topics include human-computer interaction, eye-tracking technology, technology-enhanced learning, virtual and augmented reality. In light of his national and international research projects, Prof. Dr. Kürşat Çağıltay informed the participants about educational technologies from the past to the future. Starting from the punched card era, he shared his firsthand experiences of the early days when the Internet was first introduced to Turkey. He discussed innovative works he has done in areas such as technology integration, special education, virtual reality, and human-computer interaction. Prof. Çağıltay also provided suggestions on how to use innovative technologies effectively and efficiently in educational environments. He emphasized that educational technologies should not be seen as a goal in themselves, but rather should be used as a lever to achieve better learning outcomes.
In the final part of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Kürşat Çağıltay answered questions from the participants.
